Government Wages – Big Pay Little Work!

Government Wages

Government wages…

Government employee wages have grown to more than double as compared to what private sector workers earn. Has the Government employee increased their productivity? No! Do they deserve to earn more than their counterparts in the private sector? No!

Pay raise…

Federal workers have been awarded bigger average pay and benefit increases than private employees for nine years in a row. Then we wonder why the deficit is growing at an astronomical pace!

Federal civil servants earned average pay and benefits of $123,049 in 2009 while private workers made $61,051 in total compensation, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Are the Federal Civil Servants of superior intellect and deserve this disparity? No!

The federal compensation advantage has grown from $30,415 in 2000 to $61,998 in 2009. Public employee unions claim the compensation gap reflects the increasingly high level of skill and education required for most federal jobs. Apparently the public employee unions haven’t been in my neighborhood and witnessed the gross incompetency with their superior, intellectual, lazy and arrogant employees!

What 60%…

On average, federal employees earn 60 percent more than the average private sector employee – $79,000 vs. $50,000 respectively. When you add in retirement and health care benefits, the gap grows to 85 percent. Where is the outrage?

We the people, are fed up with public employee pay scales far exceeding the private sector!

Nice benefits…

Federal employees received average benefits worth $41,791 in 2009. Most of this was the government’s contribution to pensions. I wish my employer contributed to a pension for me! The average federal wage has grown 33% faster than inflation since 2000. Federal Government pays on average of 20% more than private firms pay their employees for comparable occupations. Federal compensation has grown 36.9% since 2000 after adjusting for inflation. When compared to private workers in comparable occupations, a measly 8.8% inflation adjusted was paid!

Recession? What recession?

These pay discrepancies persist despite our current recession. When compared to the situation in the private sector with an unemployment rate of 9.5 percent, wages have steadily declined. Is this fair? Should Federal employees take cuts to reflect the current economic climate?

Government employee productivity? Nah!

Private sector wages are closely tied to productivity. Government employee wages are based on the Federal General Schedule (GS) pay scale, which determines the salaries of 70 percent of the federal workforce. Advancement is achieved through seniority and has nothing to do with productivity! This explains the incompetence and laziness of Federal workers.

Government jobs are more lucrative than private sector jobs. Government jobs are almost impossible to lose thanks to the unions! Government jobs are very attractive to minorities.

Job security…

Federal employees enjoy job security regardless of the economy. Since the recession began, federal jobs have risen by 240,000, which is about 12 percent. The unemployment rate for federal employees has risen from 2.0 percent to 2.9 percent between 2007 and 2009.

In closing…

Government job compensation needs to be lowered to match their private sector counterparts. This would only be fair! Government employees need their pay cut along with their benefits as the private sector has. Government employees should never be paid more than private comparable occupations. This would cut the deficit drastically! As far as their claims of superior intellect and skills, just look at our politicians, it pretty much makes and solidifies my case!
